Planting & Growing Guide
Plant your tubers in spring after last frost when soil warms. Dahlias prefer full sun and well-draining soil. Plant your tuber 4-6” deep and 12-18” apart. Tubers can be planted horizontally or vertically with the sprout pointing up. At planting apply bonemeal and a general granular fertilizer in each hole (We use Nature’s Intent and Bonemeal). Do not water until green growth appears above ground to avoid rot. Fertilize with a lower nitrogen fertilizer (5-10-10) every 3-4 weeks for optimal growth. Pinch the top center growth when dahlias are 8-12” tall for bushier branching plants. Deadhead or cut flowers often to promote more blooms. Stake or corral your plants to prevent them from falling over in wind, rain or from top heavy blooms. There are many tutorial online for how to corral your dahlias.
